While planning on renovations to HopLite, proprietors Cory and Catherine Robbins wanted to figure out a way to support Ocean Cure in the process. The duo created the HopLite Silent CHAIR-ity Auction that gave their patrons a chance to permanently become a part of the HopLite family by bidding on one of 14 bar seats, the winning bids received a shamrock on the newly installed bar with an engraving of the buyer’s choice.
With the help of their patrons, last week Catherine was able to present the Founder and President of Ocean Cure Kevin Murphy a check for $6000. Murphy shared that the donation will be a huge boost to bringing more wheelchair-accessible mats to Carolina Beach, “my goal is to have a mat at every ADA access in Carolina Beach!”
Ocean Cure is a 501c3 non-profit organization, led by Kevin Murphy, is dedicated to helping people through the healing powers of the ocean. Through surfing and paddle boarding, our highly qualified instructors help people gain confidence, freedom and a sense of normalcy. Each season the group maintains and installs about 50 yards of beach floor running from the north access to the south access of the boardwalk make the area ideal for wheelchair access.
