Carolina Beach, NC – At their regular monthly meeting in October 2022, Carolina Beach Town Council adopted revised parking regulations based on recommendations from Town staff and the ad-hoc parking committee established earlier in the year. A new rule was added that restricts parking in town right of ways. Ordinance 22-1185 states: Town-issued parking passes shall be required in all undesignated right of ways that are located in the following location: a. Lake Park Blvd. going west to the Town Limits, and begins at and includes Alabama Ave. going north to include and terminating at Atlanta Ave; and b. Third Street going west to the Town Limits, and begins at and includes Atlanta Ave going north to include Goldsboro Ave. and Harper Ave.
Enforcement in these areas will be focused on vehicles that are not in compliance with safety regulations. The most common violations are listed below (for a full list of parking regulations, visit Carolina Beach’s code located at www.municode.com): • Vehicles parked in an undesignated parking space within an intersection or within twenty-five feet of an intersection. • Vehicles parked in an undesignated parking space within twenty-five feet of any flashing beacon, stop sign, or traffic control signal located at the side of a street or roadway. • Vehicles parked in an undesignated parking space where a street includes two or more separate lanes and traffic is restricted to one direction, no person shall park or stand upon the left-hand side of such roadway unless signs are erected to allow such. • Vehicles parked in an undesignated parking space within the median of a divided roadway. • Vehicles parked in an undesignated parking space within fifteen feet in either direction of a fire hydrant, unless a greater or lesser distance is designated and appropriate signs or markings are displayed. • Vehicles parked in an undesignated parking space in front of or within five feet in either direction of a private driveway or road. • Vehicles parked in an undesignated or unauthorized parking space on or within ten feet of a crosswalk. • Vehicles parked at hazardous or congested areas where signs or markings have been installed prohibiting such. • Vehicles parked within a designated drive aisle. • Vehicles parked unattended in commercial and passenger loading zones. • Vehicles other than buses parked in a bus stop. • Oversize vehicles parked on town streets. • Vehicles parked in “no parking anytime” zone. • Obstructing other vehicles: No vehicle shall so stand on any street as to interrupt or interfere with the passage of public conveyances or other vehicles. • Unattended vehicle: It shall be unlawful for any person to leave a vehicle’s engine running while it is standing parked upon the streets • The storage of vehicles, boats, trailers, and/or other equipment within public rights-of-way, public parking areas, or other public areas is prohibited. • The use of vehicles, for camping or permanent or temporary living facility within public rights-of-way, public parking areas, or other public areas. Strict enforcement will continue for Town lots and streets with marked/designated parking spaces.
