Q&A with Tracy Mitchell, Town of Kure Beach Commissioner Candidate

What has driven you to run this Election? My family and I have been blessed to call Kure Beach home for five years now.  Living here, you can’t help but have an awareness and appreciation for the unique flavor and culture of this community and the people in it.  You want to be a part of it. You want to serve in some capacity, contribute.

For the better part of two decades, I have served my community in some fashion – from youth director to Board of Directors.  My desire is to continue to serve my community and the people in it, listening to and representing all Kure Beach citizens, while preserving the Kure culture, keeping Kure Beach, Kure Beach.

What specific skills do you bring to council should you be elected/ re-elected? During the majority of these past five years, I have had the honor and pleasure to serve as the Beachwalk HOA President, recently re-elected.  This role has afforded me an opportunity to get involved and dig in to better understand the Town’s infrastructure, develop working relationships with both the current Council and department heads, engage with and understand key issues that affect the citizens, and be a voice for those within our community. Presently, I serve as Chair of the Town of Kure Beach Stormwater Committee.

If elected, I will bring a strong degree of fiscal responsibility and discipline to Council.  Given my current and previous roles on Boards of Directors, I know what it’s like to successfully work within those budgetary confines, pause when appropriate, and adjust course as needed.

Good communication skills, an avidity for transparency, long-term commitment to community, a willingness and demonstrated ability to listen, lead, and roll up one’s sleeves to get things done are all qualities I bring to the table and balance to Council.

Do you have any upcoming events promoting your run for office?  Yes.  An informal meet and greet to chat and discuss the issues that are most important to the citizens of Kure Beach is being planned.  Date/Time/Location TBD

Any parting words for residents as we look forward to electing the next council?  In the past five years we have called Kure Beach home, I have had the honor and pleasure of getting to know and work alongside many of you within our community.  In addition to serving as Chair on the Town of Kure Beach Stormwater Committee, I have had the privilege of representing and serving the Beachwalk community as HOA President for several years now.  In that service, I have made it a point to insert myself into Town conversations and dig deep into the issues that impact our community, protecting our members and citizens of Kure Beach.  This leadership role has allowed me an opportunity to develop a long standing, solid, working relationship with other HOA’s in Kure Beach, council members and department heads, working in tandem to accomplish our unified goal – serve our citizens and protect the quality of life in this piece of paradise we love to call ‘home.’

For those who know me, you understand my work ethic, know I do what I say I’m going to do, and get things done.  Serving on Council, that is exactly what you will continue to get.

The “Kure Culture” and flavor of our town are what makes our community special and stand out from other coastal communities. Appreciating the unique needs of our community, I am fully committed to working for, listening to, and serving you, the citizens of Kure Beach.

As you know, there are several key and complicated issues that Council will be deciding on in the near future – the boardwalk, the bike path, potential infrastructure increases and costs from the south end upgrades, and hard conversations around fiscal responsibility to name a few.  I am eager to listen to, represent, protect when needed, and serve the citizens of Kure Beach as we face these challenges and decisions together. I can say, without hesitation, my serving on the Town Council is the right direction for Kure. Together, we will keep Kure Beach the Kure we all know and love.
